A Story of Love and Loyalty

ACIT Performing Arts Academy Presents the Musical Aida

This week, the ACIT Performing Arts Musical Program will be performing the musical Aida, a story about an Ethiopian princess who is captured and brought to Egypt as a gift for the Egyptian princess Amneris. Aida quickly falls in love with an Egyptian general, stoking jealousy within Amneris. Soon, the story erupts into war, vengeance, and deep questions of loyalty.

The first two shows will be this Thursday and Friday night at 7 pm. The final day of the performance will be on Saturday with two shows at 2 pm and 7 pm.

“We do shows so that people can come to the theater and be moved, and inspired, and touched somehow,” says Mrs. Volpe, director of the show. “I hope they leave here, maybe being introduced to a show they’ve never seen or heard of before.”

With musical rehearsals starting back in January, and being incredibly time consuming, it’s fair to say that the cast worked hard to prepare a quality production for its audience.

“Preparing for these shows takes a lot of time and effort, a lot of hard work,” says Brian Ruga, who plays the part of Pharaoh. “You’re here late nights, especially tech week, so being able to come together as a family and being able to present this production to people is like my favorite aspect of this.”

Once all the rehearsals have been said and done, and opening night is upon them, the cast of Aida is sure audiences can expect an incredible production of this timeless musical.

“Be prepared for some amazing talent,” says Ella Wardell, playing the role of Amneris. “Everyone in this cast has worked so incredibly hard, and it’s just going to be a really amazing show.’’

Filled with a gripping story, toe-tapping musical numbers, and compelling characters, ACIT’s production of Aida is sure to delight everyone, young and old.

“Be excited, it’s a very exciting show,” says Shayla Rodriguez who plays Aida.” It’s very funny, it’s cool, and it has an amazing story to it.”

Tickets for the musical are on sale during lunch periods, as well as online at www.acitech.org.
