Sophie Xeon, more commonly known by her stage name SOPHIE, was born on September 17, 1986, in Glasgow, Scotland. She was widely known for self-produced electric pop music and her work as a producer, working with prominent figures including Charlie XCX, Madonna, and Vince Staples. She started her career as a musician in 2008 playing shows in Berlin and the U.K. with her first band Motherland. In March of 2015, Charlie XCX announced a collaboration with SOPHIE, throwing her into the public spotlight. In the beginning of her career, Xeon kept her identity anonymous before coming out as a transgender woman in 2017.
Her unique music genius practically created a new genre within hyper-pop, making a name for herself by revolutionizing pop and redefining electronic music. In 2018, SOPHIE was nominated for a Grammy award under the category Best Dance Electronic Album.
On January 29, 2021, the moon was full and beautiful, so naturally SOPHIE wanted a picture. To get the best picture she could, SOPHIE found herself on a third-storey building rooftop balcony. She accidentally fell off, being pronounced dead at 4 a.m. the next morning, at Attikon University Hospital in Athens, Greece. Her loss was publicly mourned by dozens of huge names, including Rihanna, Charlie XCX, and Sam Smith.
At 34, Sophie left behind a loving girlfriend and the endless support of family and fans, as well as her short-lived but beautiful legacy.
