National Puppy Day was on March 23th. A day about cute little puppies is what everyone needs. This day was established in 2006, for all dog lovers to enjoy and spend time with their puppy. To give unconditional love for our furry friends that make our lives brighter. This day was also created to show awareness of the number of dogs who need permanent homes and raise adoption awareness for pet owners.

The History Behind National Puppy Day

First let’s start with who exactly made National Puppy Day. It was actually created by a founder of other worldwide trending pet holidays, Colleen Paige. She has created National Dog Day, National Cat Day, National Pet Day, and so much more. She believes that all pets should be celebrated and encourages people to adopt as a first choice for looking for an animal companion. Paige first started this pet and adoption awareness with National Dog Day in 2004, later adopted by the New York State Legislature in 2013. That day is celebrated on August 26, the day when she also adopted her first dog, named “Sheltie” when she was 10-years-old. From there, millions of people were influenced by her compassion and bringing light to animals worldwide.

Because of this, she has created awareness on the amount of dogs up for adoption, in need of a home. She also helped shine some light on worker dogs who risk their lives everyday for our personal protection, law enforcement, the disabled, and freedom.

Don’t have a pup?

Consider adopting one at a shelter or animal rescue! Or support and donate to your local shelters to help those little pups and dogs who are waiting for their forever homes. Why not also volunteer at the shelter to spend time and care for these cute puppies? Protest puppy mills for the sake of the poor mothers and puppies as well! There are so many ways to support our beloved canine friends. They have so much love for us, so let’s show our love back to them!
