Schooled in the Kitchen
A deeper look into the Culinary Arts Academy.
The Culinary Arts Academy at Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) is filled with many students who are passionate about what they do. Being in the kitchen gives students a hands-on idea of what it’s like to work inside a real kitchen. Chef Morse, one of the academy’s culinary teachers says, “We are the longest operating academy in the whole school,” and being around for many years, the Culinary Academy is one of the most popular academies at ACIT. Students in this academy get to explore food using a balance of creativity and discipline, two elements needed to produce wonderful and tasty meals. “[The]Culinary Academy trains you for a real restaurant experience,” says ACIT junior Bailey Harrigan. “I love that culinary gives you a hands-on idea and surrounds you with chefs who have done it all.” Students in this academy participate in the realness of working with food and people, which prepares them for culinary jobs and dreams they aspire to take on in the future.
